We're now in Sydney, having spent 3 months in Asia it's nice to be in a more normal country and to be able to cook for ourselves and eat things other than rice and noodles, but the cost of Sydney is a bit of a shock... it's more expensive than England!
We ended up spending ages in Singapore, we really like it there and it's so clean. Everyone is also so obedient, although that's not too surprising with fines of £500 for not flushing the toilet or eating on the underground. I'm not sure how they would actually find out that you hadn't flushed the toilet though.
The nicest place we went to in Singapore was Pulau Ubin, a little island off Singapore, it's really quiet and undeveloped... nothing like the rest of Singapore. There was apparently a lot of wildlife there but we only saw a preying mantis, there were wild pigs there as well, but I'm quite pleased we didn't meet any of them.
We arrived in Sydney last Thursday and are staying with a friend I used to work with. Visited the botanical gardens a couple of says ago & saw loads of animals didn't really look at the plants though! Saw a lot of bats which were flying around our heads & screeching loads, which was pretty strange and also a lot of huge spiders! I love that there are so many parrots just flying around here, much more interesting & brightly coloured.
Even managed to go out in Sydney, Jay got us guestlist for a club in Manly to see Fort Knox Five, i'd never heard of them but it was a pretty good night. Really nice to be able to catch a ferry through the harbour at night to get there.
When we were in Australia 4 years ago we did grape picking at a vineyard owned by friends of my parents & actually got that wine on the plane here. I think they must have a budget grape especially for Quantas...
We're off to LA later today & then on to Costa Rica tomorrow.
